JOSEPH WOSTENHOLM & SONS : NEAR WEDGE : RE-GRIND
This is a very old vintage straight razor from Joseph Wostenholm & Sons, Perseverance Works - Sheffield, from between 1854 and 1867. This means the razor is between 146 and 159 years old.
The blade has professionally been restored and re-scaled. Looks super.
The scales are Tropical Yellow acrylic tapered with a faux ivory micarta wedge. This is a higher grade acrylic with superb optical clarity, excellent resisting to natural aging and heat resistance.
The blade is very clean with no rust, cracks, chips or disturbing stains.
Just a few remaining residual surface pits left around the engraving as it would have meant losing all engravingvduring the restoration.
Hardly noticeable.
On the front tang it says: Joseph Wostenholm & Sons - Perseverance Works - Sheffield

J. Wostenholm & Sons: Perseverance Works - Sheffield Sheffield 1854 - 1867
The
crosses are Maltese crosses. The firm was in business as early as 1848 as J. Wostenholm & Co. In 1854 they moved from 64 Rockingham str. to 42 Leicester square in Sheffield, England. The name was changed to J. Wostenholm & sons about that same time. By 1863 they were operational from Penistone Road, Perseverance Works - Sheffield. This company manufactured "Bowie type knifes amongst other kinds of cutlery.
